Process Development Engineer

                              JOB SUMMARY:

                              This role is for a process engineer and researcher with chemical/process engineering

                              academic background and some industrial research experience in interdisciplinary

                              areas encompassing chemical & process engineering. The process development engineer assists in designing and conducting research – from bench-top to large lab scale to pilot scale – to develop new processes as well as improve the existing methods/technologies/processes for transforming renewable resources to renewable fuels and industrial platform chemicals. Working with Senior technology development scientist, the process development engineer also shares responsibilities in design and execution of projects and processes in the aforementioned research areas.

DUTIES/RESULTS:

• Work in a multidisciplinary research team to define and develop R&D projects related to chemical transformation of renewable resources to renewable chemicals and participate in scale-up to pilot plant development. 
o Conducts literature review, formulates hypothesis, and designs experiments using design of experiment (DOE) approach.
o Performs/conducts laboratory/pilot scale experiments, interprets results and experimental outcomes.
o Summarizes the outcomes of laboratory experiments and discusses with project team leader/scientist.
o Assists in designing process equipment and improving process efficiencies
o    Works as a liaison between Engineering firm, equipment fabricator, and technology development team
o  Writes technical reports.
o Participates in scaling up the technologies to large lab and pilot scale.
o Utilizes creative and critical thinking, and acts pro-actively to ensure completion of research projects in timely manner 
• Maintains high level of awareness of Aduro technology, research programs/projects, and milestones.
• Participates in technology discussion and brainstorming meetings to communicate the laboratory results, identify the know-how gap, and develop R&D work plan accordingly.
• Performs other duties as assigned. 


SPECIFICATIONS:

 

Education: Minimum of BS in chemical engineering or equivalent, MS or MEng in chemical engineering or process control engineering or equivalent is preferred
Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in industry research setting conducting research in applied chemistry and chemical engineering interface. Research experience in technology development is preferred.
Qualifications: 
• Should be eligible for applying for P. Eng.
• Must have ability to work with minimum supervision to plan and execute laboratory experiments 
• Strong technical knowledge of existing technologies and latest developments in renewable resource conversion to renewable chemicals
• Must be experienced in operation, maintenance, and minor troubleshooting of high temperature/high pressure reactor vessels, and common analytical equipment 
• Must be familiar with workplace safety protocols/requirements
• Must be able to set and hold priorities between multiple demands and actions
• Must have excellent communication and organizational skills
• Proficient computer skills on MS Office apps and familiarity with software programs related to statistical analysis, Aspen HYSYS, and online chemical database search tools/programs
• Knowledge of ASME, TSSA, CRN, ESA certification process is an asset
Work Environment:  Office, Chemistry/Chemical Engineering Lab
