SARNIA, Ontario - Bioindustrial Innovation Canada (BIC) is a nationally focused not-for-profit business accelerator that provides critical strategic investment, advice and services to business developers of clean, green and sustainable technologies. In 2015, BIC established the Centre for Commercialization of Sustainable Chemistry Innovation (COMM SCI) initiative, which acts as a hub for the commercialization of sustainable chemistry and bio-based innovation.
Over the past four years, BIC has supported many projects with early stage companies within the Sarnia-Lambton Hybrid Chemistry Cluster. These projects provided an opportunity for regional economic development and diversification. BIC works closely with its many partners in Sarnia-Lambton including Lambton College, the Western Sarnia-Lambton Research Park, the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership, Bioindustrial Park Sarnia and the Bluewater Energy Park. BIC continues to support ongoing COMM SCI partnerships, projects, and investments and invites new early stage companies to work with BIC and its partners to further expand the Sarnia-Lambton Hybrid Chemistry Cluster.
BIC is also pleased to continue to support the development of a second hybrid chemistry cluster in Eastern Ontario with its new partners; the St. Lawrence Corridor Economic Development Commission (SLCEDC) and St. Lawrence College (SLC). These activities will continue to be managed by Joe Hendriks, BIC’s Eastern Ontario Project Manager. “The SLCEDC is very excited about this partnership with BIC and sees huge potential to collaborate on our very much aligned mission, goals and objectives,” says Joe Hendriks. “BIC brings substantial capability to the table for Eastern Ontario which will help us with our mission to attract new industrial and commercial employers to the region." BIC believes that there are significant opportunities to execute COMM SCI projects in Eastern Ontario that can leverage the existing infrastructure and expertise. By supporting these opportunities, BIC and its partners can remove barriers to commercialization for new bio-based start-ups and sustainable chemistry companies who can bring innovation to full commercialization.
