Ainsworth Energy is a developer and operator of renewable energy projects. We convert biomass and carbon-based inorganic waste products, jointly referred to as “feedstocks”, in North, Central, and South America into high-value products that will fuel our future. We do not develop technology, but rather, we identify and employ “best of breed” feedstock conversion technologies that have been adequately demonstrated or are otherwise ready for commercialization.

This purpose of this COMM SCI project is to remove barriers to commercialization relating to First Nations consultations and the development of a sustainability plan for First Nations participation.

This purpose of this COMM SCI project is to mitigate the key risks of the project that represent barriers to commercialization and to determine economic viability to proceed with the next stage of development (FEED) and raise the necessary financing for the next stage (FEED).

This purpose of this COMM SCI project is to:

- increase the pre-pilot production capacity so that there is sufficient product sample volume available for market development.

- register products with the appropriate governing bodies to allow selling into the global marketplace.

Benefuel Inc., is a Canadian, majority owner biodiesel process technology and production company with offices in Ottawa, Ontario Canada and Coppell, Texas, USA. The company has developed a novel, next generation technology for manufacturing low carbon biodiesel and bio-lubricants from waste feedstock. Benefuel's patented ENSEL process allows the company to produce biodiesel at a substantially lower cost than conventional methods by using lower cost, high free fatty acid feedstocks and converting them at high yields into biodiesel and technical grade glycerin.

The purpose of this COMM SCI project will provide Benefuel with a well-defined, modular engineering design that can be replicated and constructed by a wide range of fabricators. The Modular design will reduce costs, accelerate development, improve quality and lower the overall risk of execution.


BioAmber Inc. is a sustainable chemicals company. Its proprietary technology platform combines industrial biotechnology and chemical catalysis to convert renewable feedstock into building block chemicals for use in a wide variety of everyday products including plastics, resins, food additives and personal care products

The purpose of this COMM SCI Project is to achieve a cell free broth employing membrane filtration of clarified succinic acid broth for purposes of improving the productivity of BioAmber Sarnia and the process of future plants.

BTF is a biorefinery technology provider for the conversion of biomass into energy and non-energy products through an innovative mechanically fluidized reactor (MFR) pyrolysis process.


The purpose of this COMM SCI Project is to scale up the BTF pyrolysis reactor technology to process 100 kg/hour of dry biomass feedstock to product consistent quality and quantity (yield) of pyrolytic oil and pyrolytic char.
